Continuing with Megillat Ester, b"H we have reached Pasuk Vav of Perek Aleph. The pasuk says : " There were hangings of white, green and blue, held by cords of linen and purple wool to silver rods and marble pillars. There were divans of gold and silver on a floor of alabaster and marble [arranged in patterns of] rows and circles." (chabad.org). We always try to learn from the Katuv (text) something to inspire us to reach higher levels of Kdusha and Ruchaniyoot. From this pasuk we see that a Goy King computes his kingdom, all his valuables, his morals, what he stands for, and everything that he involves himself with based on gold, silver, and all material objects.
He is basically saying: the only way we can judge someone is based on his wealth, on what materials he has to show what he is worth. Hashem Yerachem, the ideal Yehudi is the complete opposite! We, with Hashem's help, strive to reach the ultimate level of modesty and actually trying to distance ourselves from the materialism our society urges us to glue ourselves to. We all need to switch 180 degrees the way we compute the value of a person; not based on his/her capability to deposit money into their bank accounts, rather to see how the person deals with a situation with the amount of Torah he/she knows. Does the person decide to help someone out because that person has money and he/she sees that there might be a chance they will be financially compensated by helping that person out or is it because we have the Mitzvah of VeAhavta Lere'echa Kamocha and according to Bet Hillel that is all of Torah?
We need to decide what fills our priority basket in our lives:
Does Hashem mean anything to me? Does Hashem's Torah give me the basis for my decisions? Who am I?What is the Torah's influence on me? Do I hate G-d? If so, Why?
We need to constantly do Hitbonenut to see our level of materialism vs. spirituality.
B'H we will all have the zchut to run away from the stupidity and materialistic craving of our society and sprint to the Torah HaKdosha and its everlasting wisdom taken from Hashem Elokeinu.
SHABAT SHALOM! Heads up: B'H Purim's in 18 days!
