1. After Haman was hung and killed because of Hashem's rachamim on Am Yisrael at the time of Mordechai and Ester, all the Jews still gathered to fight off the people who had permission to kill them from the previous decrees of the king (because a king cannot withdraw his decrees). In order to survive, the Yehudim had to fast and do tachanoonim/vidui to get Hashem's help. For this reason, we fast on 13th of Adar, as known as Ta'anit Ester.
2. If 13th of Adar falls on Shabat (and therefore we need to fast), we move the fast to the Thurs. before (11 Adar). Why not move it to Erev Shabat (Fri.)? Because on a fast, slichot and tachanoon are added and Chazal thought that the addition of these prayerd would cause people to refrain from preparing for Shabat, so they moved it to the Thursday before. (This shows us that a fast used to be extremely emotional and fulfilling spiritually and simply was not a day that they just didn't eat or drink, therefore their preparation for Shabat would be impaired. This shows how desensitized we have become to Yahadut and how cold we are compared to our ancestors.)
SHABAT SHALOM :D
