Translated from Ve’En
Lamo Michshol:
1. An individual who invites guests to his home should
respect and open up a table for them with happiness and a friendly manner and
to avoid having them feel uncomfortable that they are eating from his table.
Rather, the host should be happy that he has the privilege that Hashem put in
his position the opportunity to fulfill this great and important Mitzvah. Whoever
is cheap and has difficulty to see people who eat from his own table is
recommended NOT to invite people to his home because this can cause the guests
of the cheap individual to become sick from the food (based on the Zohar).
2. One should be cautious not to stare at their guests if
they are eating and not to look at their plate that is in front of them during
the meal in order to avoid embarrassing them and having them stop to eat.
