CLD #815

Baruch Hashem we have the privilege to be 12 days away from Purim 5773! It is written in Masechet Megilla (the Gemara’s tractate on Purim) on Page 12b “Rava said if it wasn’t for the first scrolls that were sent out, there would be nothing left of Israel.” Background: if an individual looks at the story of Purim, they see that Haman bribed Achashverosh with thousands of silver coins to get the signature for the decree to pass the law to kill all Jews. The story continues that the kingdom of Achashverosh sent out the same letter to kill all Jews twice.

Rashi explains Rava’s teaching in the Gemara by telling the scholar that the people of Achashverosh’s kingdom thought the king became crazy: why send the letter that gave the go-ahead to kill the Jews twice? Rather, Rashi explains that the people thought via the second letter that they have to actually wait for the specified date to kill all the Jews and not run to kill them as they wished.

In the book Tiv HaEmunah, Rabbi Rabinowitz explains that this is coming to teach us that this simple Pasuk (Ester 1:22) is not some ‘extra’ verse in the Megilla. Rather, EVERY SINGLE POINT OF THE STORY OF ESTHER & PURIM IS BY THE HAND OF HASHEM! This is coming to teach us that sometimes we do not know why something happened. In all cases we must repeat to ourselves: Everything is from Hashem and its for the best. So look up, stay strong, stay confident with Hashem as your guide and continue doing Mitzvot! Everything will work itself out and if it doesn’t seem that way, you can always look up to Hashem and just vent to Him through prayer.

Be’ezrat Hashem we should have a Purim that is not a day we will forget because our aim was to drink, rather it will be a day of SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND SPIRITUAL HAPPINESS with an aim to get closer to Hashem!
