From Yalkut Yosef:
1. It is a Mitzvah to shower on Erev Shabbat (Friday) with hot water to respect the welcoming of Shabbat. If one cannot shower, they should at least wash their hands and face with hot water. Whoever is strict in regards to Torah, they should even cut time from their Torah learning to shower for Shabbat. If one can they should also try to dip in the Mikveh before Shabbat. Women are also obligated to shower before Shabbat. One should be cautious not to shower to close to the time that Shabbat enters, in order to avoid the desecration of Shabbat. One should do all the necessary things for Shabbat closer to Shabbat because then it is seen that it is for the respect of Shabbat (but not too close to the entrance of Shabbat).
2. If one has long hair, it is a Mitzvah to get a haircut for
the respect of Shabbat’s entry. One can also cut their nails and get a haircut
on Thursday for Shabbat, even if the hair and nails grow again on Shabbat. One
is not allowed to throw the cut nails on the ground, unless he is in a place
where women do not walk by whatsoever.
Shabbat Shalom!
