CLD #706

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
When you surround yourself with people who are a positive influence you become the positive influence yourself. When you surround yourself with the negative you become negative. This is indirectly seen in Tehillim in the last pasuk (verse) of Perek Kuf-Mem-Dalet (144), “Ashrei Ha’am SheKacha Lo, Ashrei Ha’am She’Hashem Elohav.Praised is the Nation with its lot, Praised is the Nation that Hashem is their G-d.

Just because of the fact we are Jewish, David HaMelech cries out to us: YOU ARE PRAISED. Sometimes, unfortunately we discard the power and strength we have from our spiritual side and believe in our yetzer hara (evil inclination) that tells us how spiritually weak and foolish we are to even think we can get up and continue to do Mitzvot with love and passion.

This is why being around Jewish people is of great importance. They can be a negative influence and then we are supposed to distance away, but when a friend is a positive influence we always want to be around him/her. A positive friend is an individual who is succeeding, who you look up to for help and advice because you want their accomplishments to shed onto you. Now imagine a positive Jewish friend who is there for you, not only is he/she there for you when you need most as it says in Pirkei Avot that we are a nation of mercy and good deeds, but also who helps you get closer to Hashem the right way, who helps you do Hessed and gives you opportunity to do Mitzvot.

Ashrei Ha’am Shekacha Lo, Ashrei Ha’am She’Hashem Elohav. What is the crust of this pasuk? The fact that it says praised is the nation that Hashem is their G-d. Hashem is not a friend or an individual or a parent, but is something we cannot comprehend, even if we take all the brainpower and computer power and every other intelligence in the entire world and history of the universe, we will not understand Him. But we can understand tiny bits and pieces of Hashem through Torah and Mitzvot and looking at our nation, the whole Jewish people. When we attach and surround ourselves with Jews, we are attaching ourselves to Hashem.

How do you know what an individual is all about? You look at their children. Hashem is publicized and famous through our actions. The world sees us as Hashem’s messengers. Therefore, we must take the proper steps to live a life that shows what Hashem is all about. Don’t you want to make your parents proud? How much more so with Hashem, your Creator, your G-d?

Judaism=Think.
