CLD #705

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
We just passed a Shabbat filled with Ruhaniyut (spirituality). It was a Shabbat of beginning, a Shabbat of creation, a Shabbat of fulfillment and aspirations for the future. Shabbat Bereshit is known to be a kick start Shabbat for the upcoming year.
We have already passed all the Hagim (holidays), from Rosh Hodesh Elul until last week we were dipped in spirituality and now is the time to show it off.

From this Rosh Hodesh of MarHeshvan (beginning Tuesday Night) is a time around the world where the individual can really work on him/herself. This is a time to show Hashem: “I really meant what I prayed for during Yom Kippur and now I want to live it.” But it does NOT come easy. It’s a time where you take yourself and you say: I am going to work on this characteristic or this Mitzvah everyday for the next week. By the end of the week you will see how you improved. Or you tell yourself: I am going to work on this specific Mitzvah the entire time UNTIL HANUKKAH, and I will succeed BH!

Rav Mutzafi shlit’a brought down in his shiur two years ago on Bereshit that Bereshit stands for basic Middot (characteristic traits) that every Jew needs to have in order to live a life with Hashem. Bereshit breaks down into six letters: Bet, Resh, Aleph, Shin, Yud and Tav.

Bet stands for Bitahon, or trust in G-d. Without someone trusting in Hashem to provide for him/her the spiritual and physical/financial needs, the person has no foundation of Judaism.

The next letter, Resh, stands for Ratzon, or will. Without the will to accomplish, a Jew will never see success [I know an individual who wakes up at 5:00am every morning to learn Torah and pray, no matter how late he goes to sleep at night]. If you have the Ratzon, you have everything.

Next letter in life is Aleph, which stands for Ahava, every Jew must have Ahavat Hashem (Love for G-d). How do you get it? Look at the world, look at nature, look at the miracle of pregnancy, look at the miracle of eyesight and walking and breathing, etc.

The fourth letter is Shin. Shin is Shetika, or silence. In order to live a life with Hashem you need to know when to be silent and when to speak, but most of the time you should stay silent.

The second to last letter is Yod (yud) which is Yirah, fear of Heaven. It is the most basic and important of all because it is the spinal cord of the individual. If one has no Fear of Heaven their Avodat Hashem is in big trouble, as it says in Tehillim (pslams 111:9) Reshit Hochma Yirat Hashem…, the Peak of Wisdom is Fear of Heaven.

The final letter is Tav, and that stands for Torah. Without the Torah, there would be no creation, which Hazal (our Sages) teach us that Hashem looked at the Torah and created the world.

Shavua Tov!
