For
the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva
bat Yocheved Z’L.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. One who already did Netillah Yadayim (hand washing) without a Beracha and had no intention of having a meal whatsoever and suddenly began craving bread and having a meal needs to repeat the Netillah. If one has not abandoned thinking about the first Netillah there are those who say for Hulin (food that does not need extra purity to eat it, such as bread) one does not need to have intention when washing, therefore they do not need to repeat the first washing or say a Beracha (blessing for the food). Therefore, if one finds him/herself in this situation they should simply do another Netillah without saying the Beracha of “Al Netillat Yadayim.”
2. When saying the Beracha of Netillat Yadayim (after washing
and before drying off the hands) one should raise his/her hands and remain
standing. In any case, if the individual is sick or older where they cannot
stand they are permitted to say the Beracha sitting down.
