For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. On the day of Gimmel
Tishrei (3rd day of the new year, beginning September 19
5:25am), Tzom Gedalya takes place where everyone must fast on this day. Whoever
will have the problem of fasting on Yom
Kippur because he/she will fast on Tzom Gedalya should not fast and use up
their fasting energy for Yom Kippur. Rav Yitzhak Yosef’s minhag (custom) is to pray Shaharit with Tefillin and Talit on Tzom
Gedalya.
2. A Sephardic individual who is praying in an Ashkenaz
minyan during Minha on Tzom Gedalya and is called up for the Torah reading
specifically for the third aliyah should try to avoid going up for the aliyah.
Only if this person must read the third aliyah he can also read the Haftarah which the Ashkenazim minhag
teaches. Even if Sepharadim do not have the minhag of reading a Haftarah on
Tzom Gedalya, in this situation where the Sephardic man must go up he can still
read the Haftarah.
Tzom Mo’il (meaningful fast) & Shana Tova!
