For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. There are those who have the minhag (custom) to fast on Erev Rosh HaShanah (this year falls this
Sunday). One who wants to eat before alot
hashahar (dawn, which is when the fast begins) may only do so if they did
not sleep that night. The only way to eat before alot hashahar is to make a condition before sleeping by stating
he/she would like to eat before that time. According to the Kabbalah,
throughout the entire year was in prohibited from eating before alot hashahar. Only drinking water, tea
or coffee is allowed after dawn.
2. If one is accustomed to fast Erev Rosh HaShanah or has
decided to fast and on that day he/she was invited to a seudat Mitzvah (meal) such as breakfast after a Brit Milah
(circumcision) and the like, is allowed to eat there.
