For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Haviva bat Yocheved Z'L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
As discussed on Thrusday’s CLD, Hashem has Yud Gimmel Middot that we say during
Tahanoon and especially during these holy and spiritually enlightening days of Aseret Yemei Teshva to awaken Hashem’s
attribute of everlasting rahamim
(mercy) so the final stamp on the upcoming year’s judgment will be sent out to
the Book of Life and not the opposite, G-d forbid.
Two of the Middot (attributes) we say are Erech Apayim (in short – hesitating patiently).
Erech is in regard to Hashem’s way of
punishing. Is it not true that we see people run after women, desecrate the
Shabbat by driving in public, eating non-Kosher, the list goes on and on. Why
doesn’t Hashem show them some judgment, send them some angels to make them do
Teshuva, etc. People ask this all the time: Why do the most wicked people
receive such large gifts. Its as if Hashem is encouraging those watching to
follow their path of spiritual suicide!
The answer falls in Hashem’s middah of erech. Hashem waits patiently for every Jew. It could be
hours, days, weeks, years! Rav Shimshon Pinkus ZT’L explains that when an
individual sins, they literally kill themselves, as it says HaNefesh HaHotet Hee Tamut, the soul
that sins will die. Hashem says like this: “Correct, you did ‘kill yourself’
you literally take out your heart out of your system by sinning! However the pain will not come now. I
am going to wait until you return to me, you do Teshuva, you give Tzedakah, you
go to minyan and work on yourself to turn your actions around and become a
better Jew. Go learn Torah, go teach others Torah, go do Hessed, go love your
family and bring people closer to me, etc.”
Then the next Middah is Apayim,
which means double. If we have erech
and then immediately apayim we have a
total of three. Erech alone is one with double erech, equals three. Three in
the Torah has a connotation of forever, everlasting. This concept of Erech is erverlasting. One should not, G-d forbid, think that
Hashem waits forever for them to do Teshuva. Rather, one should understand
that this merciful attribute makes up Hashem and G-d will FOREVER ‘act’ this
way!
G-d willing we have THREE
days until Yom Kippur. As stated before, three
marks a concept of forever in life. If one takes these three days and seriously does Teshuva from the heart, it does not
matter what they did the entire year!
It will all be fixed because, as stated in previous CLDs, the only thing Hashem is looking for is your
heart.
Shavua Tov and Gemar Hatima Tova!
