For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
The Mishnah in Ta’anit 26b: Raban Shimon ben Gamliel says
there weren’t happy days (Yamim Tovim)
like the days of Tu B’Av (15th of Av) and Yom Kippur.
Why? The Gemara explains: Tu B’Av was the day that the wood
for the coming year’s korbanot (sacrifices) for the mizbeah was completely
gathered and cut. From here we learn that when one finishes a Mitzvah, like
when finishing a Masechet, we have a party and celebrate. We’re thanking Hashem
for helping us complete a Mitzvah, especially in such a spiritually low
generation like ours. We msut know how precious it is to take time out of our
day just for Kvod Shamayim (respect of Hashem), after all there are only 1
million Jews trying to keep the entire Torah in the world! Also in a way the
wood supply shows that Tu B’Av is the first day of the upcoming year.
According to more Kabbalistic sources, in the name of Rav Shlomo
Pinto shlit’a, Tu b’av marks 40 days before the world was created. There are
those who have the custom to begin saying “Ketiva VeHatima Tovah” (which means
have a good judgment, getting ready for Rosh HaShannah/Yom Kippur) because of
this reason. The Gemara explains that the world was created on the 25th
of Elul and man was created on the 1st of Tishrei (Rosh HaShanah), according
to the Kabbalah on Tu B’Av G-d “thought” to create the world. Today marks the
day for the “thought and idea” of Hashem’s plan into creating the world.
Therefore, Tu B’Av is a very special day for prayer specifically for Shidduhim
(finding one’s partner that matches to their soul) and for beginning new
things.
Maybe its time to take upon myself something “new” like
keeping another part of Torah, such as keeping Shabbat or checking my
suits/clothing for Sha’atnez or maybe stop eating some type of non-Kosher
food?!
Judaism=Think.
SHABBAT SHALOM &
TU B’AV SAMEAH!
