For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.
Bamidbar
22:25 “The she-donkey saw the angel of Hashem, and she pressed against the
wall. She pressed Bilaam’s leg against the wall, and he beat her again.”
Gan
Emunah (we are trying to raise another $550 to buy 100+ copies to give out for
the Fall semester in NYC Colleges BH, donate by the right sidebar) explains
that the foundation of Emunah is understand that everything that happens in our
life is from Hashem. Why get angry? Its from Hashem, obviously its for your own
good.
Rav
Shalom Arush brings an inspiring metaphor to explain the events that occur in
our life (if they seem to be negative in our eyes, G-d forbid): The owner of a
dog walks with him around the park. All of a sudden the dog gets into hysteria
of some sort and bites another animal. The owner needs to punish the dog! The
owner takes a stick and wacks the dog as punishment. The dog in his ignorance
starts barking and biting the stick and becomes angry at the stick! The dog
does not realize it’s the owner who is in charge of the punishment.
The
same thing is with us in our crazy world. We go through so many things and
events in our lives and we do not realize its all from Hashem! So I got ripped
off online by a few bucks, its from Hashem. Someone did better than me in class
and I didn’t get the award, its from Hashem. I just found out Ploni (Jewish
john doe) was diagnosed with a disease, Lo alenu, its from Hashem. I can’t
finish the end of the month, my salary is not enough, its from Hashem. And on
and on.
Bilaam
is the epitomy of wicked and evil in the history of the world. He was the
ultimate sorcerer who wanted to eradicate the Jews from the face of the earth,
and the Gemara explains he had the power to do so! What was his biggest problem
(besides the fact that Hashem placed in his mouth blessings instead of curses)?
He never found Hashem in the picture. We clearly see from the picture on top
that a non-Jew represents the opposite of a Jew. All Bilaam did was beat the donkey. He didn't think why Hashem is having the donkey hurt me?! The answer was that Hashem wanted to give a sign to Bilaam not to go in the direction of evil and wickedness even though he was a non-Jew. Hashem wants good for everyone.
Go
to any Jewish city and find the poor families struggling. They will all be in
dear Tefillah (prayer) to Hashem and with 100% Emunah (faith) that Hashem has
their back. This is the power of Am Yisrael. Shabbat is the ultimate testimony
that Hashem is The Creator and Controller of all transactions, deals, events,
shidduchim, etc. Because on Shabbat we stop what we are doing and believe
Hashem will bless us for the week to come. Keep Shabbat and you will see it.
SHABBAT SHALOM!
