CLD #637

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.
Usually most people discuss the actions of Pinhas the Kohen (aka Eliyahu HaNavi) from the Parasha we heard in Shul this morning, however people tend to leave out information about the rest of the Parasha.

One story about the Parasha that is not discussed greatly is the story of Benot Tzloefchad, the daughters of Tzlofchad who died in the desert with no sons. Am Yisrael were given the chance to break down Israel into 12 different plots of land and each plot of land was given to a different tribe. In each tribe land was given to all families. If a family had a son, the son would inherit the land. Tzlofchad died and with no sons, his daughters were worried about their own share.

After Moshe forgot the Halacha regarding inheritance, Hashem told him that Benot Tzlofchad were correct and that they are owed land. Baruch Hashem we picked up something during Shabbat regarding the story. The 5 names of the daughters are: Milkah, Na’ah, Hoglah, Mahlah and Tirzah. Each name ends with the letter “Hei” which has a gematirya (numerical value) of 5. That is 25. Moshe Rabbenu’s name, Moshe, has a gematriya of 345. There are 6 people involved in the story and see that comes out to 376 (Moshe [345] + 5 daughters x 5 Hei’s [25] + 6 [amount of people]). 376 makes out the word peace in hebrew, or Shalom (Shin=300, Lamed=30, Vav=6, Mem=40).

When someone wants to create Shalom, they must bring Hashem in the picture. Moshe Rabbenu was not afraid to say “I don’t know the answer.” And even more than that Benot Tzlofchad had the guts to go in front of all the most righteous huge leaders of Am Yisrael and say they are owed land! That is EMET (truth) right there. When someone is in a lifestyle of running after Shalom and seeking the Emet in the reason behind this world, they are true examples of what Am Yisrael is all about.

SHAVUA TOV!
