For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Everyone always asks: what do I need to find in a woman?
What is so special about X that I need to know in order for her to be my wife?
The answer is directly in our Parasha. Rashi explains that
the women in the Midbar (desert) were women of Am Yisrael. They were real, they
had this fierce xharacteristic of emet,
truth in their belief of Hashem. They saw everything as Hashem’s way and not
Hashem’s way, literally speaking. The Pasuk that discusses the women of the Dor
HaMidbar (generation of Am Yisrael who traveled the desert after Egypt) teaches
that the women were not part of the decree that was on the entire generation. Rashi
on the Pasuk of Bamidbar 26:64 explains that the men were left without any
Emunah (faith) and the situation got so drastic that they gathered everyone to
go back to Mitzrayim (Egypt) to be slaves! Why were the women excluded from the
decree of not being able to enter Eretz Hakodesh, Israel? The women yelled back
“let’s get there faster in order to achieve our plot of land!”
A woman with Emunah, faith, in Hashem and does not look at
the negatives in life and sees how much she has and how much Hashem gives her
and her family, is a Bat Yisrael (a daughter of Israel). She is real and she
has the yeshuv hada’at (balanced
thinking) that every Jewish home needs in order to live through the struggles
of our generation. Rav Levy shlit’a always says that one should find a woman
who Middot (good characteristics) and has real Emunah in Hashem because
religion can be taught (obviously she needs to be open to learn what Judaism is
all about).
Am Yisrael has a special gene in their blood. We have the
characteristic of walking in the dark and KNOWING 100% that Hashem is with us
all the way. This is a real Jew, this a real man, this is a real woman.
B’H it all begins with Shabbat, because on Shabbat we close
our stores and our businesses and stop our entire weekday lifestyle. Its all to
testify that Hashem is the Owner of the World, not my customers and not my
boss. Keeping Shabbat is one of the main things we do that differentiates us
from the entire world. How do you sell yourself to Hashem? You think spending
an hour online surfing the net will get you anywhere in Shamayim (the Heavens)?
I don’t think so (talking to myself as well).
Judaism=Think, but
its also about my actions.
SHABBAT
SHALOM!
