CLD #615

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Our generation is not simple. As we wrote in the previous CLD, we are living in a spiritually dark society. If one only steps onto the subway towards Manhattan, they are immediately bombarded with advertisements filled with close to nude pictures of women and men. There is a made up world in our world that portrays fun as living a life without boundaries, jumping off the restricted spiritual train and running into sex, drugs and intense partying.

The meaning of companionship and loyalty in the non-Jewish world has disappeared (or in the direction of nonexistence). What does Hashem have the Torah revolve around? The immediate nuclear family. VeShinanta Levanecha, and teach your children. Hanoch LaNa’ar Al Pi Darko, teach the young adult based on his way. Who should teach? Obviously a father! Hashem wants us to be happy. To start a family, to pass on the values of love and Torah throughout our community.

Where are the concepts of family, loyalty, love, passion, education and all the wonderful things that the Torah teaches in other places around the world? Last I heard Russia is all about women chasing after a man’s large bank account to buy the most expensive brand name clothing. People in NYC are looking for the show and the family with one child and 2 or 3 pets. China and Japan is filled with businessmen and women chasing after money. Why am I in this world? What is the point? Is it to waste my seed on some video on the Internet? Is it to run after my intense dream to be a billionaire? Is it my love to eat?

Where is happiness? As Pirkei Avot (Ch. 4) states: Who is The Wealthy One? The one who is happy with what he has. Life is not about the amount of zeros in our bank account or the number of women I slept with. Its about meaning, passing on our values and morals as Jewish people to the next generation to continue being the light of the world. The Torah does not look down upon being wealthy with a lot of zeros in our bank account, but it does look down upon the person who has a lot of money and does not appreciate the fact that Hashem is The One who gave it to him/her.
