For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. It is a Mitzvah to bathe one’s full body and shampoo
their hair on Erev Shabbat (Friday afternoon) with hot water Lichvod Shabbat (to respect the
Shabbat). If one somehow cannot bathe their entire body they should at least
wash their face and hands with hot water. One should even shorten their Limud
Torah for bathing Lichovd Shabbat. If one has the opportunity to dip in the
Mikevh before Shabbat they should do that as well. One should not bathe near
the time of Candle Lighting not to have the shower conflict with any Halachot
of Shabbat.
2. If one’s head is filled with long hair it is a Mitzvah to
get a haircut Lichvod Shabbat on Erev Shabbat (Friday). If one cannot do it on
Friday they should go to the barbershop on Thursday. It is also a Mitzvah to
cut one’s long fingernails on Erev Shabbat. One may not throw away their nails
on the ground, rather flush them down the toilet or near a place where women
are not present (because the saying that pregnant women who step on nails harm
their baby is true).
