For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Because its Sefirat HaOmer, the counting of the Omer, many Kehilot in Israel (congregations) have the custom to read on Shabbat Kodesh the Perek (chapter) of the corresponding Shabbat. For example, this week the reading should be of the fifth Perek of Pirkei Avot considering Shavuot is in less than two weeks from now.
So what is written in Pirkei Avot that really gets the energy moving throughout one's system? It says in Perek Aleph Mishnah 17 that Shimon did not find something better for the body rather than silence...This shows us that there is a reason why indeed the Tannah (Sage) wrote specifically "body" and not any other type of part of a Jew.
The Tannah could have easily wrote Neshama (soul) or Nefesh (animal soul) instead of writing body. The Meam Loez explains the reason why the Tannah wrote specifically 'body' and not any other part of the Jew. Silence is something that is not easy to achieve in such a technologically advanced generation where one always must be loud and in the scene.
So the reason the Tannah writes "the body" is because the body needs to be silenced. The Tannah is hinting to us the importance of silencing the pleasures of the body and greatening and putting into the spotlight the importance of the Neshama's needs. It is known from common knowledge that Neshama is in constant desire of getting close to Hashem.
