For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. A Katan (under
Bar Mitzvah, 13) who has reached the age of Bar Mitzvah during Sefirat HaOmer
(the counting of the Omer) may not continue to count the Omer and say a
Beracha. As learned from before, a Katan may count the Omer and the say the
Beracha for it throughout the entire Sefirat HaOmer because it is upon the
parents to teach the child the Halachot and customs of Sefirat HaOmer so in the
future they can complete the Mitzvah themselves. If one has skipped a day of counting
the Omer, they may not continue saying the proper Beracha anymore. Therefore it
does not matter here that the Bar Mitzvah used to count the Omer with a Beracha
every night, because the Mitzvah was upon the father not the child. Now that the
boy is a Bar Mitzvah all the Mitzvot are his responsibility, therefore it is as
if he has not said the Beracha of Sefirat HaOmer from day one and he cannot
continue the Omer with a Beracha. The Bar Mitzvah now should hear the Beracha
from the Hazzan and count the Omer every night.
2. The Mitzvah of Sefirat HaOmer must be accomplished while
one is standing, because Chazal (our Holy Sages) has learned this from the
Pasuk that teaches about Sefirat HaOmer and the Seven Weeks between Pesach and
Shavuot. However, if one has sat while saying the Beracha they have still
fulfilled the obligation of Sefirat HaOmer.
