For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Rashi explains in our Parasha, Parashat Ki Tisa, that Hashem
commands Moshe Rabbeinu to count Am Yisrael by telling each male 20 years and
over to bring a Half-Shekel coin. This Half-Shekel Coin is the money we donated
to Shuls/Yeshivas the past couple of weeks as “Zecher LeMachatzit HaShekel.” Besides using this as a counting
mechanism, Hashem commanded Am Yisrael to bring this donation to help buy all
the products and items needed to build the Mishkan.
Rashi adds that this is a way Hashem shows He loves us. How?
Whenever we have a large amount of something, if we can count it and love it so
much, then why not count it? For example a person who just made a big deal in
the market they are working in takes the profit and puts it in their personal
safe at home. If the person is happy, which the average person would be, they
would go count the money every night before they sleep. Their Kriyat Shema Al Ha-Mitah is counting the
money. Anyway, what do we see here? The love Hashem has for us. He wants to see
exactly how many Jews there are in the world to bring more Spiritual Energy, or
Shefa, to the entire human
population. Everyone of us Jews is a candle with a spiritual light that can
make others feel so good and happy. The only way we can take advantage of our abilities
is by getting closer to Hashem.
Its like having a main headquarters of positive energy and
us being the messengers who hold this energy and pass it on to the entire
world. We are Hashem’s electronic devices and He is our outlet.
aPurim was 24 hours ago. Even though we are already waiting
for Purim next year, we know that we received a great amount of Kedusha, purity
and holiness, just from participating and fulfilling the Mitzvot of Purim.
Let’s keep that Kedusha and carry it with us throughout this Shabbat and the
entire year Be’ezrat Hashem. How do we do that? Go to Shul, Pray the Tefillot
of Shabbat Kodesh, eat Ema’s food, Birkat HaMazon, listen to Kiddush, and on
and on. When we add more holiness, we can only go up spiritually. Just take a
minute to think how much good happens from a single Shabbat, a single holiday,
or just putting money in Tzedaka (and the Torah tells us to do all these things,
including keeping Shabbat Kodesh).
SHABBAT SHALOM!
