For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. It is correct to clean the home before Shabbat with a
broom, mop, etc. Lichvod Shabbat (for
the respect of Shabbat). It is correct and recommended also to cover tables with
special tablecloths from the hours before Shabbat until after Havdalah (set of
Berachot said to escort the Shabbat out of the world during Motzei Shabbat).
2. From the time of Ezrah (Bayit Sheni, around 400 BCE) there was a Takanah (set law) that all of Israel would do laundry on Thursday
for Kevod HaShabbat (for the respect
of Shabbat). It is absolutely allowed to launder clothing throughout the entire
week, however it is recommended to begin from Wednesday on in order to respect
the Shabbat. It is correct, however, to avoid
doing laundry on Erev Shabbat (Friday afternoon) in order to focus on the
preparations for Shabbat. For those who are lenient to do laundry in a machine
can be lenient and launder clothing during Erev Shabbat.
SHABBAT SHALOM!
