For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. After one has finished learning his daily amount of Limud
Torah, he should go to his workplace. Man should put an effort not to avoid
work, because all Torah that has no work included in it will have an end result
of failure and poverty. In any case, one should not make his work Ikar
(the main priority) and his Torah Tafel
(on the side/unimportant). However, it is more suggested to learn the entire
day and receive a salary from the Kollel or Yeshiva or a private Donor rather
than being involved in trade and/or work and only including a couple hours of
learning daily. This holds true even if the salary is not exactly enough and
causes a small financial pressure point, because one should trust in Hashem, VaHaBoteach BeHashem Chessed Yesovevenu.
2. One should be cautious to trade and work with Emunah (faith in Hashem, meaning
everything is from Hashem so everything should be done with honesty and
according to the Torah Law). One should make sure his work/trade has no
suspicion of any theft or dishonesty. Therefore, it is applicable and
recommended to sit and learn the Halachot (laws) regarding trade, to be
knowledgeable regarding the do’s and don’ts of these issues.
