CLD #452

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester & the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara.
What is the ultimate Jew like? A tie. What does all of Am Yisrael strive to be like? A string of ties.
How does this make sense and how can we link the two? A tie is simple a long piece of clothing, with the same pattern from beginning to end that is tied into a nice knot to show a sense of class and higher respect for oneself. When is this piece of clothing used? On Shabbat Kodesh and Chagim (mostly).
All of Am Yisrael, each one of us represent a different pattern and different personality. However, we all have the same ultimate goal of making the world a more pretty and civilized place. How is that possible? By following the Holy Torah. Baruch Hashem in my Yeshiva in Manhattan last year I encountered a 10-volume set of Books on Halacha. However, these are different because they are more contemporary Halachot that people always ask about.
For example, there is a book only on modern day “stealing.” For example: Did you know that you cannot taste food at a grocery store without asking the seller. In Israel unfortunately it is assumed that the owner allows or people to take and try food without asking. Also there is an entire volume on Derech Eretz (proper manners according to the Torah).
So how do we know to tie the knot to make the tie look perfect with our outfit? We should be balanced. Orchot Tzadikkim writes that the only way one leaves a Middah Ra’ah (bad characteristic trait) is to completely avoid it at first and deal with the ‘side effects,’ and then slowly return to it but only use when you are supposed to. For example, one who is impatient should ‘break his teeth’ and deal with being patient in every case possible, to completely distance away from impatience. Only after they see they have overcomed the difficulty of being patient, only then should they begin to be impatient where one needs to be impatient. Slowly when one gets into the world of the Torah they know how to scrutinize situations to see how to act.

B’H we should all realize that the only way to be the BEST way to reach clarity and understanding of life is by following the Halachot of the Torah and our Rabbis (obviously there are other ways, but there isn’t any way that compares 100% to the Torah’s way).

Its up to you to be the 'perfect' tie.
