VeTaher Libenu LeOvdecha Be’Emet. (Asking Hashem in the middle of the prayer:) “…And Purify our
Hearts to work You (follow in the way of the Torah) in Truth.” Every Shabbat
and on Holidays that we are obligated to follow from the Torah (De’Orayta) we say these words during the
Amida.
But the question stands: Why do we need to add
the word (in) Truth for this prayer? Isn’t it obvious that if we “work” Hashem
then we obviously do it in truth?
No. It actually is not. Today because of where
we live and what we are surrounded by, we are actually spun around and
constantly distracted to do things without thinking about them. A visitor of
Rabanim.net, a Hebrew website packed with Torah, wrote a Chiddush (a learning)
on this prayer. He says that the word “Be’Emet,” in Truth, has the same
Gematriya (numerical value of 443) of Hodu
L’Hashem Ki Tov (which means thank Hashem because of good, meaning
everything that occurs is for our own good).
So now that we see their Gematriyot are equal,
we learn that in order for one to reach the ultimate level of Kedusha of the
Lev (purity the heart), they need to ALWAYS thank Hashem for everything that
occurs. And not only thank Hashem by trying to follow the Mitzvot and be Yereh Shamayim (Have fear of Heaven),
rather sing and dance and be full of happiness and joy! Because in the end fo
the day it’s a huge zchut to follow the Holy Torah that teaches us how to be
the most civilized and truthful people!
So how can we connect this to Chanukah, which
is 14 days away? We need to know that the essence of Chankah is the miracle of
the Small Kad (jar of oil). What does
oil represent? It represents the division of Am Ysirael and the entire world.
Go pour water and oil in a cup. Which liquid
will be on top? The oil. (Go try it!) We are on top for a reason, we are the
ones navigating the world to a higher spiritual place, which is a more happy
place.
B’H may we all find our inner spiritual potentials and run after
the Mitzvot and the Torah HaKdosha to reach it!
