For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester & Israel Ben Rivka.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. One from Israel who shaves with a knife (razor), even if
people have warned him, people should explain to him the severity of using a
razor and to bring him closer to Torah & Mitzvot. One should NOT chase away
a man from Israel who uses a razor, because in such a generation like ours one
can push a person away from religion by attacking them for not following the
Torah. The Ramah in the Shulchan
Aruch says one should distance him/herself from a sinner, but in a generation
like ours we should bring people closer to Hashem in ways of peace and if we
don’t what will it be with those sinners’ children?! All this fits for people
who will change and learn from their mistakes, rather than people who will just
cause others to fall spiritually, where one should distance him/herself from
this person.
2. The Minhag (custom)
of our Sephardic Rabbis is not to grow out long Pe’ot (long sideburns) and also based on the Kabbalah there is no immediate need to grow out one’s Pe’ot. For
those who grow out their Pe’ot, and go by our brothers’ Minhagim, the
Ashkenazim; should be praised with a Beracha of Tov and there is no suspicion
of Yuhara (Ga’ava, unhealthly pride).
But at the same time there is no chiyuv (obligation)
based on Halacha to grow out one's Pe'ot.
