For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester & Israel Ben Rivka.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. One is not allowed to pray Shmoneh Esreh (Tefillat Amida) while
holding a baby. In any case, it’s a good minhag
(custom) to bring toddlers to Bet Knesset (Shul) and one should avoid
bringing children who will bother the Tzibbur (congregation) from
focusing/having the proper kavanah
(intention) during Tefillah. But even if the parent has brought the child (who
has the potential to bother the Tzibbur) to Bet Knesset, then they should make
sure that the child does not bother anyone.
2. There is a general rule that one should do anything and
everything to reach as much kavanah as possible in Shmoneh Esreh. Rav Yitzchak Yosef
writes that recently people have placed the entire Tefillah in their small
pocket device (same as having an entire Siddur on our phones). He explains that
one should NOT be suspicious that holding this device to pray the Amidah would
cause less kavanah and therefore be prohibited. He continues to say one should
not be suspicious in thinking the phone might fall, which would prevent one
from praying with full kavanah (and therefore have the phone be prohibited to
use as a digital Siddur).
