L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel
ben Hadassa &
Israel Ben Rivka.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. Batei Knisiyot (Synagogues) and
Batei Midrashot (Study Rooms to learn Torah) are called “Mikdash Me’at,” a ‘Mini-Bet
HaMikdash (Temple of Yerushalayim). Purity is held in these places. Therefore,
one should be cautious to behave in Fear of Heaven and with respect in these
places, to always make sure to clean after themselves and to always light a
candle out of Respect in these places.
2. In Batei Knisiyot and Batei Midrashot one does not act
with lack of respect, with silliness and a joking manner, which includes
speaking conversation that does not include any Torah or Mitzvah-related
issues. One should always be stringent with this Halacha, because in our day
the public has made this act of silliness in these places ‘allowed.’ One is
even allowed to calmly and respectful remind people who are acting in the wrong
way to respect the holiness of these places.
