L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel
ben Hadassa &
Israel Ben Rivka.
From Chazon Ovadya (Rav Ovadya’s Halacha Book):
1. Its a Mitzvah to decorate one’s Sukkah with pleasant decorations.
There is a famous Pasuk that Chazal learn one needs to glorify each Mitzvah and
do as much as they can to make it as important and praised as possible.
Therefore, we see one needs to put effort in making his/her Sukkah the most
pleasant, comfortable and attractive for people to do Mitzvot in. This also stands
for a Lulav, Shofar, Tztitzit, Sefer Torah, etc. Therefore one should decorate
their Sukkah with fake Pomegrenates, Grapes, bottles of Olive Oil and Wine
because Praised is the one who adds to the beauty and praise of his/her Sukkah.
2. When one puts up Sukkah decorations, they need to put
them really close to the Schach (Sukkah Roof), with a maximum of Four Tphachim (16 inches) in between. If
these decorations fall Four Tphachim or more from the Schach, one might make
his/her Sukkah Pasul (not Kosher).
