L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel
ben Hadassa &
Israel Ben Rivka.
From Yalkut Yosef about Erev Yom Kippur (fast begins Friday after
Sunset):
1. On Erev Yom Kippur (Friday until Sunset) one should only
eat light foods that are comfortable for the body to digest. One should avoid
eating foods that warm up the body, like eggs or hot milk. One should avoid
meat fat on the day before the Tzom
(fast) because this can raise the percentage of Keri on Yom Kippur G-d forbid(wasting seed during sleep). However,
after Shacharit in the breakfast meal one can have hot milk, coffee and/or tea.
2. For the Seuda Mafseket (The final meal before the fast),
there are those who have the minhag
(custom) to dip the bread that one said the Beracha
of HaMotzi on in honey or sugar. However, it is correct to dip the bread in
salt as well.
3. One needs to try to take the fast upon him/herself before
the fast actually begins. Considering that Yom Kippur is a Yom Tov, a Mo’ed, holiday for Am Yisrael; one
should tend to enter the Mo’ed earlier than the latest time. Therefore one
should end the Seuda Mafseket before
Sunset, so they can take the fast upon themselves earlier than scheduled. This
also applies for the four other prohibitions on Yom Kippur: Bathing, Applying
lotion/make-up, Wearing Leather Shoes, and Relations with one’s spouse.
theCLD wishes you a Tzom Mo’il (meaningful fast) &
a Gmar Chatima Tova (may we be signed in
the Book of Life and Shalom)!
Also, let’s not
forget: SHABBAT SHALOM!
