KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT KOL YOM MUVTACH LO SHE'HOO BEN HAOLAM HABA

L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel ben Hadassa & Israel Ben Rivka.
FromVe’En Lamo Michshol:

1. One is not allowed to be lenient and think that is alright to watch TV even if it is left on before Shabbat Kodesh and is turned off because of a timer. Therefore, a Ba’al/at Tshuva who accepted to keep Shabbat fully, it is not okay to watch TV with a timer, because this type of person might think that it is ‘kosher’ to do so.

 2. Ba’al/at Tshuva (one who is in the process of trying to keep all Torah and Mitzvot relevant to our day) who finds it very difficult to quit smoking on Shabbat, one is allowed to advise him/her to cut the amount of smoking he/she usually does by half on Shabbat. Even though this seems like we are giving him/her permission to break Shabbat, one should tell him/her to try to break Shabbat as little as possible, meaning they should not light out the final cigarette.

3. A Ba’al/at Tshuva that is a guest at his parents our friends home, and they are sitting on the Shabbat Table with lit cigarettes (Hashem Yerachem), even though he/she is a smoker, he/she is allowed to sit with them on the table.

4. A Ba’al/at Tshuva that has his parents turn on the TV on Shabbat Kodesh (Hashem Yerachem) and the Shabbat table faces the TV (Hashem Yerachem), and the TV is turned on before Seudat Shabbat; the son/daughter should try to put a towel or blanket over the TV and try to prevent his/her parents from turning off the TV (because this is also not allowed). If this act of covering the TV might cause a fight or problems, the son/daughter should sit with his/her back facing the TV and have the intention NOT to enjoy anything he/she hears from the TV.

5. A Ba’al/at Tshuva who has a family member turn on the Radio (R’L) or a CD and listens to music on Shabbat Kodesh, and he/she has no way to stop the person from listening, the Ba’al/at Tshuva does not need to leave the house or cover his/her ears, rather continue with what he/she is doing and have the intention not to enjoy from the music.

SHABBAT SHALOM!
