For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara & Binyamin ben Blanka.
All beginnings are difficult.
When someone decides to do something in our
generation, really in every generation, one has to break through many obstacles
to reach success. How many times did Steve Jobs and Apple fail at their
products become a global success? How many times did major leading bands and
musicians get boo-ed off the stage before being stars? How many times did huge
YouTube video producers get laughed at before getting paid in 6 figures
annually by YouTube just to do stupid things on camera?
LEHAVDEEL (slang to show that one cannot be
compared to the other) with the Torah and living a life of Kdusha.
We all know (hopefully) that there is a
spiritual force pushing us every day to fail at doing Mitzvot and go after our
bodily desires (too much, because in reality we do need to feed our bodies a
minimum amount) called the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination). Imagine someone thought
about the world and realized THERE IS A G-D! All of a sudden this person wants
to delve into the sweetness of the Torah HaKdosha and the beauty behind our
Chachamim and Gemara’s wisdom. How upset will the Yetzer Hara be? All of a
sudden his job of making this person fail at Avodat Hashem and doing Mitzvot
became so much harder!
This is why the Yetzer Hara makes the
beginning of trying to follow in the steps of Hashem and doing full Tshuva so
difficult. He knows how much potential you have, so making you take the first
step into a religious life is so crucial for him to make you fail!
Especially in such a Chodesh (month) like our
month now, Chodesh Elul. It is a time where there is a huge hole in Shamayim
(Heaven) that lets Hashem’s mercy directly enter our hearts and reach the
deepest levels of our souls to make us get closer to Him. The Yezter Hara does
not want this to happen.
So how do we ‘save’ ourselves from falling
into such a trap? We pray to Hashem to show us rachamim and ask Him to do all
the work for us.
“Hashem, I know it is so difficult to forgive
me, but I also know that I am Your son/daughter, so how can You let me leave
the path You want me to go on? Hashem, help me SEE that You are in control of
the world! Help me get ready for Rosh HaShanah!!!”
Yom
Kippur is in 20 days.
Rosh
HaShanah is in 10 days.
Selichot
