For the Ilui Neshama of Shmuel ben Chana.
Chabad.org: “You will betroth a woman, but another man
will lie with her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You
will plant a vineyard, but you will not redeem it[s fruits].”
Parashat Ki Tavo, our Parasha
this week, is all about staying in line and living in the way of the Torah.
Even though throughout the entire Torah and in Parashat BeChukotai we receive
warning signals if one does not follow in the steps of Hashem, Parashat Ki Tavo
is the atomic bomb of what it means to not be in line with the way our
grandfathers and grandmothers lived only 80 years ago (where there was no such
thing as not keeping the holy Shabbat or premarital sex).
Tomorrow the Ba’al Koreh (Torah
reader) has to say a chunk of the Parasha in a lower voice than usual, due to
its content. The Parasha is filled with more than 95 CURSES! One of the curses
is the Pasuk listed above.
But let’s not look deep into the
curses, because even though Hashem brings this to make us look into our past
and do Tshuva, we always need to look at the reality and try to be positive
about whatever we receive from Hashem. The pasuk says “You will betroth a
woman, but another man will lie with her…” If this is a curse, then we know the
opposite is a huge Bracha. What is the bracha? For a man to betroth and woman
and then lie with her.
This teaches us the Kdusha
behind marriage and the JEWISH WAY OF LIFE! The fact that a Jew is one who waits till marriage.
Anyway, we all know that we are halves
of Neshamot (Half a Soul) until we get marriage, which is the merging of two
halves, and this creates an enormous power of Kdusha to flow into the world from a
single Chuppa.
We all need to work on
ourselves, married or unmarried, to be the perfect spouses.
But if we look deeper at this
enormous bracha of betrothing a woman and lying with her, what can we see?
The Truth. Am Yisrael is
betrothed to Hashem. Whenever we distance ourselves from Hashem, He makes Am
Yisrael lie with a stranger, which is the biggest curse.
Because the darkness in our
generation is so great, people do not even realize they are not in a place
where they should be (doesn’t matter religious/non-religious). We all have an
unlimited potential growth in regards to Spirituality.
This growth begins with the
first step to Follow the Holy Shabbat and try to connect with Hashem “Ki Hi
Mekor HaBeracha,” Shabbat is the foundation of all the Beracha (blessing). And even more so, it is known that Am Yisrael re-marry Hashem only on Shabbat Kodesh!
