Shir
HaShirim (Song of Songs) Perek 5:2 - "I
sleep, but my heart is awake. Hark! My beloved is knocking: Open for me,
my sister, my beloved, my dove, my perfect one, for my head is full of dew, my
locks with the drops of the night."
Chachamim call Shir HaShirim ‘Kodesh
Kodashim’, which puts the book on the highest spiritual level compared to the
other 23 books of Tanach. Shir HaShirim seems like a story between a man and a
woman, but Shlomo HaMelech would not write such a simple story of romance.
Rather, Shir HaShirim is a story that symbolizes the dearest types of love
between G-d and his children, us (Am Yisrael). This Pasuk is an example of one
of the ways G-d is showing this love to us, TO YOU! He is telling us: OPEN UP
YOUR DOOR! Let me In! All I want is good for you. I want to enter your door,
YOUR heart.
But what does this have to do with me
specifically now? I can do Tshuva next month or next year, why do I need to
take the first step into Judaism now?
Because its
Chodesh Elul.
That’s it.
The fact that Hashem, the Creator of the
world, the Creator of the most complex types of plants and animals across the
globe, the Creator of the minerals and vitamins that are in you Protein Bars,
etc., IS KNOCKING INTO OUR DOORS is a mind-blowing fact by itself! He WANTS our
Hearts to be channeled to do the Mitzvot that He commands us, but He is telling
us to open up for him just a tiny tiny hole in our deepest places of our
hearts. The Gemara (Talmud) explains that this hole is the size of a Machat (pinhole), so small giving only
G-d the chance to enter. From our TINY effort of telling G-d “Please help me go
the right way” (which we can all do right now), He will do the rest to lead us
to the direction that is BEST for us.
B’H we
should realize that Hashem LOVES us, and no matter where we are and what low
point we G-d forbid might have reached, we can ALWAYS pick ourselves up and
start over. As long as we are alive, Today
becomes the first day of the rest of our lives.
Yom
Kippur is in 30 days.
Rosh
HaShanah is in 20 days.
Selichot
has already BEGUN.
