KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT BECHOL YOM MUVTACH LO SHEHOO BEN HAOLAM HABA

L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel ben Hadassa & Israel Ben Rivka.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. It is a Chassidish custom to check one’s Tefillin and Mezuzot during Chodesh Elul, however this is not a mandatory thing to do. And if the Tefillin was written by an expert Sofer (Tefillin parchment writer), one does not need to check his Tefillin even after a couple of years. From halacha one should check his/her Mezuzot every 3.5 years, and from year to year one should do this on Chodesh Elul.

2. The custom during Chodesh Elul for one who writes a letter to his/her friend to title the letter with a Beracha of: “LeShana Tova Tichtevu VeTechatmu,” For a good year that you will be written and signed in the book of life!
