Another beautiful drasha I want to share with you from the book Ve’En Lamo Michshol about the value of Torah & Mitzvot:
The Chafetz Chaim explains that this world is for man to reach high levels of success, success that even Angels cannot reach. Our Chachamim (Sages) have already told us in Masechet Eruvin (22a) from the Pasuk in Devarim (7:11) that we are commanded to keep and do the Mitzvot, to do them today, and not for tomorrow. Do them today and get the reward for them tomorrow.
In Masechet Chulin (91b), the Gemara teaches us that (Am) Yisrael is loved by Hashem more than the Malachei HaSharet (Angels)! Why? Because Yisrael has the opportunity to say Shira (songs and praise) to Hashem by the hour, unlike the Malachim. Therefore, throughout the entire day Man has the opportunity to praise and sing to Hashem, thank Him for all He does for us, through praying, saying Brachot on food, after the bathroom, etc. However, in Olam HaNeshamot (part of the process to get to Olam Haba), the dead does not have the opportunity to praise Hashem.
And this leads us to what Mar Shmuel said to Rav Yehuda in Masechet Eruvin (54a): Grab and eat, grab and drink because we’re going to leave this world, that is similar to a huge feast! This world is like a feast, today we have the ZCHUT (privelage) to drink and eat from a spiritual aspect by doing Mitzvot, Learning Torah, symbolizing what it means to be Jewish by having Derech Eretz, and do Ma’asim Tovim (good acts), and therefore we should all be putting our efforts to grab more and more Mitzvot. Until here.
In the morning in Yerushalayim years ago, the ‘Rabbi Assistant’ that would help us with the Gemara, would inspire us by asking: “Ready to gather diamonds?”
Its been almost TWO years since and I ask myself: Am I gathering diamonds?
SHABBAT SHALOM!
