L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester & Israel Ben Rivka.
From Rav Ovadya Yosef shlit’a Website HalachaYomit.co.il:
1. If one has a friend bearing the same first name as his own father, he may not call his friend by his first name if this is done in the presence of the father; however, if this is done while not in the presence of the father, it is permissible to do so, unless it is an uncommon name in which case it will be forbidden to do so even if it is done while not in the presence of the father.
2. Regarding this law that one may not contradict the words of his parents, there is a disagreement among the Rishonim and Acharonim about some of the details in this topic. Maran Harav Ovadia Yosef Shlit”a brings several proofs to uphold this view that a son may indeed oppose his father on Torah matters in his works. In any event, all opinions agree that even if one disagrees with his father on Torah matters, he must do so in an extremely respectful fashion.
