CLD #322

The Kinneret

For the Refua Shlema of Moshe ben Mazal.
Al Pi HaRav Darmoni shlita:
We had the zchut to learn Torah from Rav Darmoni today who said something monumental. He began to explain the differences between someone who has a personality to give and one who just receives. There is a famous phrase that explains: “Life is a two way street.” This is true for the one who wants to succeed. This phrase means that one needs to give in order to receive. One always needs to care about other people just like he/she cares for him/herself.
Where do we see this in nature?
From two bodies of water in Israel. The Kinneret in Teveria (Tiberias) is known as Mayim Chaim (water that provides life) and in it is the famous Be’er Miriam (water that the Ari Zal gave his student Rabi Chaim Vital to drink as a segula for Chochma – knowledge -). This body of water is the main water source for all of Eretz Yisrael’s inhabitants. It is a body of water that only gives. It is the “Giver.”
The Dead Sea
Another body of water that represents the exact opposite of the giver is the receive; Yam HaMelech (the Dead Sea). This body of water is known as Mayim Metim (Dead Water). It has no living animals in it and just absorbs everything it takes in because it is filled with salt. Salt is known as a substance that causes dehydration and absorption that is unhealthy. The receiver never succeeds. Only the person who has both the qualities of a receiver AND a giver is one who succeeds.

Hashem is not only seen through the Torah that He gave us, but He also lives and represents Himself through the land He gave us, Eretz Yisrael HaKdosha!

B’H We will always want to learn how to become better people based on the Torah’s teachings.
