L'yilui Nishmat Avrahm ben Ester & Israel ben Rivka.
From Rav Ovadya Yosef shlita Website - halachayomit.co.il:
1. In the Mishna of Masechet Brachot and in the Gemara of Masechet Brachot (27a) Chazal say that Zman Shacharit is up until the end of four hours from the beginning of the day. Meaning, from Netz HaChama (Sunrise), which is found on calendars, one should count four hours, which is a third of the day (because everyday there are twelve hours, and four make up a third of the day). After four hours one may not pray Shacharit anymore (the Amida).
2. The four hours that we said we need to count from the Netz to see when one cannot pray Shacharit anymore are not actually four 60-minute hours, however they are Sha'ot Zmaniyot. And how do we count these hours? One divides the time of the day from the Netz to the Shkiya (sunset) by twelve, and every division is considered one hour. For example, if there are 756 minutes from Netz to Shkiya (12 hours, 36 minutes) then the Sha'ah Zmanit (one hour) is considered 1 hour, 3 minutes.
SHABAT SHALOM!
