Even though the 2-week span "Lashon Hara Season" due to the 2 Parshiyot on Lashon Hara (Tazriya-Metzora) have passed, we still remind ourselves everyday to not go near even the opportunity of saying Lashon Hara. Today I had the zchut to learn something unbelievable about Lashon Hara. Even though its really scary and G-d forbid might scare away people from theCLD it is worth it because a little fear never hurts to build a person's character, as Rav Chaim Alush says from Ashkelon, Israel. So in the book Orchot Tzadikkim, (which I recommend to everyone the Hebrew-English verson called "Ways of the Tzadikkim" by Feldheim publishers!) speaks on being modest and in the chapter on modesty he includes 6 ways in which one can see if John Doe is modest. In one of the 6 ways, he explains that when someone says lies about you, you cannot show anger to that person, rather need to ignore it, do tshuva, speak to Hashem, and simply not respond (which is a modest characteristic). In this explanation, the Ochot Tzadikkim explains that when someone says a lie or a story about another person, the person being spoken about should send a gift to the person who is saying the Lashon Hara. Why? Chachamim explain when someone says Lashon Hara, he/she is handing over their reward from their mitzvot to the person being spoken about. So let's say A is saying B went clubbing and G-d forbid slept with a Goya (which is completely against the Torah and against G-d), A is giving his reward for his Mitzvot done in the past to B, AND B receives all the punishment for all the sins A has done!
I think we all need to think twice before G-d forbid saying Lashon Hara. You know when you are about to/or want to say Lashon Hara. Let's do ourselves a favor and not say it.
Pesach is in 5 days. Are you ready? Have you cleaned your house/apt/room/car/plane/boat/ship/yacht of Chametz? Have you sold your Chametz? Do you know what to do regarding Biur Chametz/Bdikat Chametz? Do you what is going on for the Seders? Did you know that this Shabat is called Shabat HaGadol?
Time to wake up and start learning who you are and what you are here in this world for (but obviously with a smile and not from panic).
Chag Sameach.
