After Moshe Rabenu Alav HaShalom passes away in the Torah, we move into the stories of the Navi'im and begin with Yehoshua. Yehoshua was Moshe's student and led the nation after the end of the Torah's history. The story is fascinating: from the fact that Bnei Yisrael flew over the Jordan river to the falling of Yericho's walls. But there was one thing when hearing the story of Am Yisrael and Yericho that really got to me. It was the greatness of Hashem and the truth of the Torah HaKdosha and one's mesiroot nefesh, or literally: the soul's sacrifice for the truth (aka G-d's existence and the Torah).
It all comes down to a single woman: Rachav HaZona: Rachav (her name) the prostitute. She was a Neviya (a prophet). Now lets move back a week. Am Yisrael was crossing the Jordan and chilling in a spot away from Yericho, with Yeoshua on good terms with Hashem leading the nation to conquer the city of Yericho. Now Yehoshua sent in spies as we all know. Coincidentally (yeah right, nothing is a coincidence) they traveled into the city and walked straight into Rachav's hands. Rachav was a prostitute who was selling food. She told the spies sent by Yehoshua that she is with Hashem and she will support them in all that they need (food, hiding location, how to leave the city because by that time the officials were searching for the spies, etc). She told the spies that she is devoting her life to G-d and the Gemara said that she received the high spiritual level of the Divine Presence. She was a prositute. From her tshuva and her reliance on G-d she reached high levels that all Jews (at least intrinsically) want to reach.
B'H may we have the zchut to act like Rachav, who turned around a full 180 degrees from being a prostitute to a prophetess and devote our lives to Hashem. This also show us that ANYONE can return to G-d and become more observant.
