What are we? American Jews or Jewish Americans? Are we Neshamot in a Guf (body) or Gufot that have Neshamot? How do we represent ourselves?
These tiny differences in our representation make huge differences in who we are.
For example, if we call ourselves American Jews we are saying the culture and laws of an American citizen is more important for us than the Mitzvot and Midot of a Jew.
Saying we are Gufot that have Neshamot is putting emphasis on the physical aspect of ourselves, which is in fact the opposite of what this world is all about. Who are we?
The objective of this world is to get to a point where you honestly believe you can connect with G-d and emulate Him. In order to reach this level, pushing aside religion completely, we need to be honest with ourselves and start speaking to G-d and telling Him everything, to be honest with ourselves and to be honest with Him.
The way one begins to improve in this world is by working on the next world (by doing Mitzvot, Chesed, Learning Torah, even smiling, etc.). In the end of the day the Torah blatantly DOES tell us what we have to do, but it all begins with our choice. Why? Because the Torah knows that what it tells us is THE BEST for us. PERIOD. But today, with all the stupidity (or what seems like "intelligience") in the world, Yehudim left and right get confused.
We need to start working on ourselves by being honest %100 and only then will our minds be cleared to be able to make the best decisions. From the smallest differences to the biggest, we all need to be moving up :D.
