1. One is not allowed to speak or read Divrei Chol (anything non-Torah related) in a Bet Knesset (shul). Therefore, one should not bring into shul a magazine, newspaper, textbook, book, etc.
2. People who want to donate a curtain for the Aron in a shul should be cautious not to bring one with designs of lions or the symbols of the 12 tribes on it because one can assume that the people might have the kavana to bow down to the designs G-d forbid instead of Hashem. It is alright to donate a curtain with the design of a Magen David or the Luchot HaBrit.
