There are two possible ways of approaching Emunah. Through the simple, innocent way; or the research based way. Through the simple, innocent way to approach Emunah people follow mitzvot “because my father and grandpa and great grandpa, etc. followed the way of the Torah, too.” After much hitbonenoot and self-questioning, they reach the conclusion that there is no other way to live other than the way of the ancestors, the derech of Hashem. To these people its simpler for them to keep Torah and Mitzvot.
To the ‘researchers,’ this type of Emunah is shaky. They base their entire faith in G-d based on stories, seminars, shiurim, and the majority of these people do not wonder about nature/the world, ask questions or argue with rabbis to search for the truth (The Torah has nothing to hide, Hashem wants us to ask questions to reach a level where we’ll know that the Torah is solid stone truth).
Now, when it comes a time to choose between doing a mitzvah that is even a little bit out of our way, what usually happens? The innocent Emunah filled man says to himself: “My ancestors have died in the Holocaust and in past ambushes and executions for being Jewish and following mitzvot. It is obvious that getting up 20 minutes early to go to minyan is worth it.” The researcher says “I want to see proof now, I want a magical nes to happen just like the people from the stories I heard, I want an angel to drag me out of bed and into shul!”
Start thinking, because without hitbonenoot, or deep thought (no real translation), your Emunah is not worth anything.
Remember: small steps guarantee a finish line.

Shabat Shalom!
