CLD #118

SHABAT SHALOM!

We can learn so much from our Torah HaKdosha B'H! In our Parasha, Parashat VaYigash, we see the huge difference between a Jew and a non-Jew's take on the world. In our Parasha, after 22 years Yosef finally meets with his brothers and father and reveals himself to the brothers first. When Yosef does this, he jumps at Binyamin in a loving manner and the pasuk says Binayim cried on Yosef's throat and then Yosef cried on Binyamin's throatS. This symbolizes both Binyamin and Yosef looking into the future and crying on the Mishkan that was in Yosef's territory and Binyamin was crying on the two Batei HaMikdash in his territory of Israel. These cries have continued forever. On the other hand, the first thing the Pharoah of the time did was ask what the brothers do professionally, and they answered that they are sheep herders (which symbolize that we need to be living in a life that is guided by Hashem, where He is the herder and we are the sheep). Pharoah looked at the monetary influence, the physical, the now, the temporary; Binayim and Yosef looked at the futureolam haba, the spiritual, the ruchani, the forever lasting. Pharoah was so happy that 11 more Yosef-alikes came to build the land of Egypt and boost its power and influence on the world. What a difference!
Also throughout the Torah, even though Pharoah changed Yosef's name, the Torah still calls Yosef and calls the Pharoah of the time Pharoah (and not by his name). This shows that a Jew is represented by his name, by what he does spritually (For ex. Akedat Yitzchak, Be'er Miriam) and not by his career status.
B'H may we only be represented by the mitzvot we do and Torah we learn.
Shabat Shalom.
Smile, Cuz Hashem loves all of us!
