From HaBayit HaYehudi:
1. Thirty minutes before Shkiya (sunset), one cannot have a 60 gram meal of Pat (bread), even if he already prayed Mincha, until he says the Bracha of Sefirat HaOmer. If, with a Rabbi's permission, he started eating a full meal, and the time to say Sefirat HaOmer has come, he does not need to stop eating and say the Bracha, rather just needs to say it after the meal. However, if he just began a meal without a Rabbi's permission, he needs to say the Bracha when the time to say the Bracha comes along and then continue eating. All are allowed to tase fruit before the Bracha, and also even begin a meal with bread that weighs less than 56 grams.
2. Women don't have to do Sefirat HaOmer, because all women are not liable to do Mitzvot SheHaZman Grama [Mitzvot regarding timing]. Even if she wants to count she can, but she is NOT allowed to say the Bracha fot ir. So if a Sepharadi mistakenly began counting with a Bracha, she has to stop immediately. According to the Zohar HaKadosh (Kabbalah), its best if women do not count at all.
