Yesterday's Halachot
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. One should not drink from their own cup and then offer
there beverage to a friend because they might be ill and pass on their sickness
and because the friend is embarrassed to reject the offer, they will become
sick as well. The minhag (custom) is
to drink from the Kiddush cup at a host and the host should wipe the cup on the
spot where they drank from or pour the wine into another glass in order to avoid
embarrassing anyone.
2. We hold not to look at other people or their plates
during a seuda (meal) in order to avoid embarrassing the individual who is
eating. One should be in an upbeat attitude while eating, whether they have a
lot or a little on their plate and think that they are eating in order to be
physically healthy and strong to serve Hashem. One should avoid being stringent
and tough with an angry attitude, G-d forbid, during meals because they cause
the entire home to avoid eating a healthy amount and to eat in fear. The oldest
person receives the most respect on the table.
