Yesterday’s Halachot:
Translated from Rav Ovadia’s Halacha Emails:
1. Jews can be lenient, even Sephardic Jews who follow the
Pesak of Maran Shulhan Aruch, in regards to eating at a restaurant owned by a
Jew, where a Jew lights up the fire in the restaurant from the morning even
though a non-Jew places the food on the fire. However, the individual who is
stringent not to eat at these places should be blessed.
2. There are young precious Jews outside of Israel who are
not especially consistent to follow all the Mitzvot but at home they keep the
Laws of Kashrut and they allow for themselves to eat out in dairy restaurants
(as long as the restaurant does not serve meat). It is clear and obvious that
these people fail to eat forbidden foods even if the restaurant only serves
dairy. There is a prohibition to eat foods cooked fully by non Jews but also
these people do not realize they are eating insects (when the vegetables aren’t
cleaned properly) and other prohibitions. This all originates from the lack of
knowledge in regards to the full Kashrut Laws. Therefore one should be strong
and eat in real Kosher restaurants with supervision and then they will receive
blessing of all good.
