For the Ilui Neshama (in memory) of Jonathan Roth,
Taken from Yalkut Yosef online (yalkut.info):
1. It is written in Zechariah "So
said Hashem: the fast of the fourth (month)...and the fast of the tenth
(month) shall be for the house of yehuda for joy and happiness and for
happy holidays." Our Sages have explained on this Pasuk (verse) from Zechariah 8:19 that the tenth fast is the fast of Asarah B'Tevet
(falls out this Sunday). Regarding these fasts all of Israel
participate in fasting in order to awaken our hearts to do Teshuva
(repentance), which will be a remembrance for all the past horrible
events that occured on these days until the suffering will end.
2. On the tenth of Tevet, Tzom Asarah B'Tevet, we fast in order to remember the seige that began on Yerushalayim which was led by the evil Nevuchadnetzar.
