For the Ilui Neshama of Jonathan Roth,
Taken from Halacha Yomit (Rav Ovadia's Daily Halacha):
1.
The Beraita in Masehet Berachot 50b states that one may not throw
bread. The Gemara expains further that regarding all types of food, the
prohibition to throw them depends on whether or not doing so will ruin
the food. For instance, soft figs will be damaged or ruined if they are
throw even on a clean table. However, if it seems that throwing the food
will not cause it to be ruined, such as throwing candies on a new groom
when he goes up to the Torah on Shabbat, the prohibiton does not stand,
for this does not act as disrespecting food.
2.It seems from the wording of Maran
HaShulhan Aruh that he rules in accordance with the view of the Tosafot
that one must act stringently not to throw bread even on a table. Many
Ahronim rule likewise. Hagaon HaRav David Yosef shlit'a rules
accordingly as well. Therefore, how much more so one should be careful
regarding the bread used on the Shabbat table which one recites the
Hamotzi blessing.
