From Yalkut Yosef Online (Yalkut.info):
1. Jews do not go in the ways of the non-Jews, as it says "In their laws do not go." We do not wear the clothing that is fit for them (immodest clothing such as shirts without sleeves), men do not grow out their hair, and men do not wear a mushroom haircut. One cannot try to copy non-Jews not in the clothing that he/she wears and not in the haircut that they choose. Therefore, it is best to avoid growing out one's hair (for men), especially for Benei Torah (Torah Scholars/Students) who must sanctify themselves and when these haircuts are negative signs of self-pride.
2. One who walks without a head-covering (Kippah), even though there are those who say they violate the law of "In their (non-Jews) laws do not go," in any case because they do not intentionally avoid wearing a Kippah to look like non-Jews there is no prohibition taking place (besides for the self-unveiling of Ol Malhut Shamaim, the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven). Those who wear a small Kippah, even though it covers only a small part of the head, they avoid violating this law of "In their laws do not go." In any case, when one walks into a Bet Midrash (Torah Center) or a Bet Kenesset (Shul) to pray or learn, it is more suggested to wear a Kippah that covers the majority of one's head, because covering the majority is like the covering the entire head.
